In spite of a growing dynamism of civil society, serious violations of fundamental rights persist. Indeed, the FIDH has no lack of sources of concern: civil war and contempt for the right to life in Colombia, conflicts over land rights in Guatemala and Brazil, restriction of freedoms in Cuba, arbitrary detentions in Guantanamo, and a general context of impunity throughout Latin America.
Economic, social and cultural rights are suffering the full force of the impact of economic globalization, while social dissent is being severely repressed.
